TRNC Embassies Abroad
The TRNC carries out contacts with other countries, including those within the United Nations Organisation, via its Offices of the Representatives.
These foreign missions do not have formal diplomatic status but serve de facto embassies and consulates. North Cyprus also appoints Honorary Representatives in various cities of the world to represent the TRNC and to assist the primary TRNC Representative Offices.
The Representative Office of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in New York City is the de facto mission and the de facto Consulate-General, of the TRNC to the UN. The mission is considered to be an information centre with personnel with non-diplomatic visas. The office in New York handles tourist information and visas matters. Besides, it carries out official and unofficial contacts within the United Nations and other missions. This office works independently from the TRNC’s Washington D.C. Representative Office. The latter serves as the de facto embassy to the United States of America.
Turkey plays a significant role in maintaining international relations of the TRNC with other countries. It represents interests of North Cyprus in countries without the TRNC Representative Offices. The TRNC officially maintains embassy and consulates in Turkey. And diplomats from other countries have already officially visited the Ankara Embassy of the TRNC to hold meetings with the TRNC Ambassador.
